Important Competitor Updates for 2021 Steelcase The Dragon Run

REGISTRATION WILL NOW CLOSE EARLIER. CLOSE DATE 29th October

Update: Short course and long course to finish at Stanley Main Beach

We aimed to have the long/short course race finish at St Stephen’s Beach this year to have a longer downwind section.  Following many discussions with the staff at St Stephen’s Beach Water Sports Centre, the organisation committee has decided to again finish at Stanley Beach.

While the new course would be exciting, the logistics of parking and loading trucks and buses would prove difficult. There is also another event on so traffic congestion could be a huge problem.  We apologize for the change back to Stanley and we do thank the staff at St Stephen’s Beach Water Sports Centre, who have been very helpful. Please read the following logistics information below including details regarding admission to the after party at the VRC.

LONG COURSE LOGISTICS

The race will start at the Clearway Bay Marina (CWBM) at 10am and finish at Stanley Main Beach. If you need your boat transported to the race start, you will need to take it to the VRC for loading by 7am on the 13th Nov. You will need to load your boat yourself. This will be the only pick up place. Boats can be stored at the VRC from the 6th November but must be removed after the race by 14th November. There will be buses to take you to the race start at CWBM once the trucks are loaded.

We have arranged a GPS tracking device this year.  This device will be attached to your life jacket at VRC on the morning of the race, or at CWBM before the start.  Please make sure you are wearing this device.  More details on watching the race live shortly.

If you have indicated, on webscorer, you will go directly to CWBM, please make sure I have your car registration number and be reminded, you can not leave your car at CWB during the race. If there are any transport changes, I need to know please.

After the race there will be transport available for yourself and your boat, back to VRC.

See the race registration page for more details and race course.

SHORT COURSE LOGISTICS

The race will start at Stanley Main Beach and finish at Stanley Beach. We do not have any storage at Stanley due to COVID-19 restrictions. Please transport your boat to Stanley on the day yourself or you can load it on a truck from the VRC at 7am on the morning of the race. Please can you complete this form if you DO REQUIRE transport to Stanley Main Beach from the VRC. https://forms.gle/MUGURWyfuB1aYtQb6

You can store your boat at the VRC from 6th November but must remove it after the race by 14th November. After the race we can transport yourself and your boat back to the VRC.

We have arranged a GPS tracking device this year.  This device will be attached to your life jacket at VRC on the morning of the race, or at Stanley before the start.  Please make sure you are wearing this device.  More details on watching the race live shortly. See the website for more details and race course.

NOVICE COURSE LOGISTICS

The novice course will now be held at Deepwater Bay. The start and finish is from the VRC. The race will start at 2pm. Please see the course attached. You can store your boat at the VRC from 6th November but must remove it after the race by 14th November. See the website for more details and race course.

After Party and Prize Giving

We are very lucky again to be invited back to the VRC for the after-party…  where the Event will be supplying paddlers and officials with food and drinks from 3pm.  Prize giving will start about 4pm.

We must STRESS:  VRC has acquired a Type D Mode of Operation which means VRC are allowed to have 12 persons per table.  They have asked for the Dragon Run paddlers to have had at least the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.  You will also be required to use the “LeaveHomeSafe” mobile application upon arrival.  The Event needs to follow the directions from VRC
